Entrepreneurial Assistant Mumbai
Hello and thank you for your interest.
I am looking for a full-time Virtual Assistant in Mumbai to help me with business as well as personal tasks.
Here are some of the startup projects I am involved in:
volunteer-impact.org (an agency for recruiting volunteers to work in NGOs in India)
donation-mix-project.org (launching an open-source project)
Launching a new website for a company involved in the agricultural and energy markets.
& much, much more!
You are very good at doing research on the web. You are an extroverted, friendly person and don't mind contacting people to get more information. It should be no problem for you to spend significant time doing thorough, but efficient, web research on any given subject and summarizing your results.
You live in Mumbai and speak Hindi
Your spoken and written English is excellent (it will be necessary to make phone calls)
Your internet connection at home is fast and reliable (Skyping should be no problem, preferably videod-skyping)
You are skilled at creating PowerPoint presentations as well as working with Word and Excel. (Have you heard of Prezi? It is free, easy to use, and even better than PowerPoint!)
You are good at copywriting and now how to grab people's attention.
(cf. http://www.copyblogger.com/copywriting-101/ )
You are creative, driven, like challenges and you are eager to learn about entrepreneurship.
You want to contribute to something big and make "a dent in the universe"
Not required but preferred:
You know how to use Photoshop (or other Graphics program)
You know how to use Google products (Adwords, Adsense, Analytics)
You have programming skills
You know how to do SEO (If so, please include which program you use to do keyword research)
Tools I recommend familiarizing yourself with (these are productivity tools I recommend to everybody):
A calendar and address book system like Google Calendar
Examples of business related tasks:
Enter Indian entrepreneurship clubs and network with mentors, i.e. people who have experience in the areas I am looking into.
Find business case studies of e.g. t-shirt production and brand creation in India
Learn about different qualities and productions methods of cotton. Learn about exporting laws (by ship and plane).
Register with affiliate programs of companies such as amazon, flipkart, travel agencies and travel insurances.
Locate IT developers in Mumbai and kickstart conversations.
Set up a LinkedIn profile
Examples of personal tasks:
Help me rent an apartment in Mumbai
Locate a dancing school for salsa classes
Organize a high-school exchange for my younger brother
I have more than one nationality. Find out under which circumstances my children may also obtain citizenship of these countries. (I don't have kids but there might be requirements I should plan for early in advance).
What I am offering:
You will receive an iPhone 3GS as a company phone (after an initial trial period)
I will pay for international calls.
Flexible working hours. You are not required to work 9-5 but may choose your own working hours. However I am looking for a full-time and not a half-time commitment.
If you would also like to work on Saturdays or Sundays (not both in one week), this can be discussed.
End of day email. At the end of each day, you will be required to outline your progress and you will be given the opportunity to talk about any issues you may have encountered and to ask any questions.
There will be a 6 week trial period during which you and I will have the opportunity to see if we can work and get on together well. You will be paid in full during the trial period.
If things go well - between us and with the businesses we will be working on - you could eventually work as a manager/director for one or more of the projects. First, you would help in finding new team members, which you would then manage.
You will learn a lot about starting your own business. After working with me, you will have learnt about selling products, services and information in the for-profit, not-for-profit and open-source sectors. There are many great podcasts, books and experiences I can share with you.
How to apply & the hiring process:
Applicants should answer the questions in the questionnaire by accessing the following 2 links. This should help me - and you - understand if this is the right job for you. Please do not try to guess what the "right" answer is. There are no right answers. I would just like to get an honest insight into who you are.
Here is a list of the 14 questions asked in the questionnaires:
How did you come across this job?
What's you name, age and gender?
What interests you most about this job?
Which of the requirements will be easiest and which will be hardest for you to meet?
Have you any experience in performing tasks like the ones mentioned in the job description?
At what times would you like to start work and end work? At what times would you like to have breaks (e.g. lunch, tea, coffee, bathroom, smoking, dog walks etc.)? If this varies from day to day, please submit a weekly schedule.
Where do you live and how can you be contacted?
What is your educational background?
How would friends describe you as a person? (Use 3 adjectives)
What skill or quality would you like to improve?
What matters to you (drives you) and why?
When could you start working as an Entrepreneurial Assistant?
Given your skill set, how much (in rupees) do you charge per month?
Is there a question not listed here that you would like to answer? If so, write down the question and the answer.
Next, you will be contacted to let you know if you have made it into the next round.
If yes, applicants will be asked to complete a simple and short task related to the job.
After this step, selected applicants will be asked to send in a CV. Do not send in a CV without being asked to do so.
The final step will be an informal interview with me in Mumbai.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I very much look forward to hearing from you!
